Be Merry

I never understood until quite recently why people have such a hard time with the holidays. But growing older, now I see how that works. Nostalgia for past times, lost people, missed opportunities. You don’t have to look far to find articles on how disconnected and isolated people are becoming, especially older people. Loneliness has even become a major health concern.

As I watch things going on around here at CTA–the holiday decorating, the gift wrapping, the scheduling for the holidays, the making certain our Santa’s beard is brushed and suit cleaned–you can’t get away from the good of the holiday as our managers and staff exhaust themselves on behalf of the people supported.

It reminds me there is good in this world and that the holidays also bring that out in people. Generosity, patience, and cooperation. This may feel premature but the holidays are indeed a season, so thank you to all the Direct Support Professionals who make all the things jolly, and sacrifice time with their families over the holiday(s).
